Built as the “Refuge Assurance building” between the years 1891 – 1895 by Alfred Waterhouse from glazed terracotta and redbrick building it was one enormous open business hall.

In 1910 – 1912 it was extended with a 217ft tower along oxford road by Paul Waterhouse, son of Alfred Waterhouse.

Further extensions were added to Whitworth Street in 1932 by Stanley Birkett

Finally it was converted into the Palace hotal in 1996 and is a grand Grade II listed building and at well over £100 per night to stay there it attracts the worlds elite.

Fast forward to 2008 and boy does that roof look like it needs to be cracked! Being up there is being in a different world, it has the feelings of a New York rooftop.
